Author Jeff Kubiak speaks to Briar Middle School students

Students at Briar Middle School and Meadowlawn Intermediate were given a lesson in kindness on Thursday. It was taught by an author who doles kindness out “one drop” at a time.

Jeff Kubiak is the author who wrote, “One Drop Of Kindness,” a book about a boy who thinks hurtful words and actions are the only way to behave and communicate with others. Mr. Kubiak, who by day is a school principal in California, played the role of motivational speaker for the students on Thursday.

Sharing his ethos that one drop of kindness is all that it takes, Mr. Kubiak encouraged the students to stand up for their classmates.

“If you have a problem with someone else, that’s your problem,” Mr. Kubiak told the fifth graders in Erich Fahr’s class. “When you pick on someone … you got to change yourself.”

Mr. Kubiak visited classrooms at both Meadowlawn and Briar, and led assemblies in both buildings.

Mr. Kubiak’s visit to the schools came after an invitation to him by Briar paraprofessional Rhonda Peiffer, who started the school’s Kindness Club for students.
